Cocktails with Patrick Recap Friday March 25th 2011

Boyband Madness Match Ups

#1 “The Right Stuff” by The New Kids On The Block VS. “Everybody” by The Backstreet Boys

Winner = “The Right Stuff”

#2 “MMMBop” by Hanson VS. “Hangin’ Tough” by New Kids on the Block
Winner = “Hangin’ Tough”

At the end of yesterday’s show, there were only two votes separating New Kids on the Block’s “Hangin’ Tough” and Hansen’s “MMMBop”. Since it was so close, Patrick decided to leave voting open overnight and announce a winner at the beginning of the show today. Votes began growing, in favor of “MMMBop” and Hanson was in a considerable lead. Suspecting a conspiracy of some sort, possibly involving one Junia Hanson, it was decided that a re-vote be a sufficient response, and a winner would be announced at the end of the show. In the end, “Hangin’ Tough” prevailed, just as they would have yesterday.

#3 “Quit Playin’ Games With My Heart” by The Backstreet Boys VS. “Gone” by *NSYNC

Winner = “Gone” as declared by Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block.

Jordan Knight called into the show to talk about NKOTBSB, his new single “Let’s Go Higher”, and confirmed that he did point to Lea during “Give it to you” at a previous concert. Twitter.com/jordanknight

Idol Recap:

Scotty McCreerySong: Once In My Life – It worked. Scotty has a growing appeal and is seeming more comfortable on stage. He’s working with what he has, probably not Idol status but will cut records Bucky
Covington style, will likely be in the top 7 or 8.

Naima AdedapoSong: Dancing In the Street – Worked well even with her dance routine. Definitely one of her better weeks. Unquestionably, not going to win but may make it to top 8 or 9.

Lauren EllenaSong: Set Me Free - It was ok, she looked really pretty.

Thia MegiaSong: Heatwave –This was the first time she really moved on stage, but later seemed to be a little thrown off. Awkward.

Haley Reinheart Song: You really got a hold on me Smokey Robinson- The first half was worthless and lacked energy, but the second half picked up a bit. In the end, she actually pulled it off this week.

Pia Toscano Song: All is fair in love – She kills it every week, and definitely has a secure spot in the top 4. She’s too good to the point that she’s almost boring because she hasn’t really shown any real personality as of yet.

James DurbinSong: Livin’ for the city–Judges acted as if he killed it, but in reality was more of a middle of the pack performance. He really just hasn’t done anything interesting lately, and was questioningly too excited about the Hulk.

Stefano LangoneSong: Hello - JLo said he has no emotional connection to the song, and that it was a ridiculous pick for him.

Paul McDonaldSong: Tracks of my Tears– He is very different, with his own unique style. He will probably be around for a while. He’s not necessarily glamming it up, and seems to be real.

Jacob LuskSong: You’re all I need to get by– He is so over the top but reined it in this week. It was obvious that he really knew this song, and has seemingly been singing it for years. One of the best performances at this stage of the competition.

Casey AbramsSong: Heard it through the grapevine –Had a poor performance this week. However, he was saved by the judges, who used their only save, in order to keep him around. It seems too early to use their only save, and was most likely a mistake.
