My Weight Loss - Days 33-36

It's weigh-in day! I went to weigh-in feeling really good about it. I ate well this week, kept up the workouts and didn't drink wine. So I was frustrated and amazed that I went up a pound this week!! Aghhhh!

When I told my husband the news, he did make me feel better when he told me that when he had his hand on my waist yesterday it felt tighter. He says it has to be because I am turning this extra weight into muscle. I really hope that is the case. I haven't taken any measurements yet, so I am going to do that this weekend to have some other numbers to go by.

Yesterday I worked out to GET UP AND DANCE BY PAULA ABDUL (DVD) from 1994. Wow did we have some fantastic hair and clothing back then. :) It was actually a pretty tough dance to learn... it's fast. But it keeps you going the whole time and there is lots of repetition... so when I play the video again, I know I'll be able to do it better and better. I sweated my butt off (I wish that was a literal statement). Once the dance part was over, there was a cheesy section of dancing to YMCA with some weird football dudes. It's kind of fun, but totally cheese-tastic. After that, you cool down with lots of stretching and sit ups. I enjoyed that because I haven't had anything else that incorporates the sit-ups; I do want to start incorporating more sit-ups and push-ups. I don't think I have ever been able to do one push up in my life. I listened to Jillian Michaels on the radio the other day and she gave some suggestions on how to start building up to doing a regular push up. I will start by doing some on the back of the couch. Once I feel good with that, I will move to doing push ups from a chair seat. Then a low stair and finally down to the floor. It will be quite the accomplishment if a single floor push up ever happens! :)

Tonight after work, I am planning on busting out my weighted hula hoop and hoop dance DVDs. I used to hoop all the time and I haven't done it in quite a while. It's great for your mid-section and a lot of fun. After I got used to the 4 lb. hoop, I find it hard to go back to my 1.7 lb hoop. There's not enough resistance. When you first start out with a hoop like the one pictured, especially with the inner "waves" on the hoop, you will probably feel bruised around your waist. But that won't last long... your body will get used to it and you won't feel that anymore. If you are looking for some variety in your workouts... definitely get into hooping. It might take practice to be able to do it, but once you get it - it's like riding a bike. Another great thing about hooping is that you can do it with a DVD if you want to learn to do some hoop dances - but you can also just turn on a TV show and hoop while you watch TV. The time flies by! I've heard you can burn as much as 100 calories every 10 minutes. But there are a lot of variables to consider to get a more accurate number.

My Weight Loss - Days 14-17

Last Thursday I was prepping for my third weigh-in. Fortunately we received a decent amount of snow that day, and I spent a couple hours outside with the kids building snowmen and forts and I shoveled twice. I burned over 400 calories!

Friday, weigh-in day, I was happy(ish) to have lost 1/2 pound. Well, I was disappointed that was all I lost since I had put in a lot of work. Others did gain a little this week. And I believe I am owed a $5 Starbucks gift card from one of the participants... he said anyone who beat him this week would get the gift card.

Friday was a co-worker's birthday, so after weigh-in I let loose a little on the munchies everyone brought in. I didn't eat lunch that day and let those munchies replace what I would have had for lunch. Fortunately, people brought things like strawberries and goldfish. There were good and bad, and I partook in both. But I kept track of the calories.

Friday night I went to my parents' house and they ordered pizza and fried chicken. Uffda! I did have some cheese pizza, a piece of chicken and some mashed potatoes. After Friday, I reined it in again. I did better on Saturday and then even better today, Sunday.

The great news is that I have quit drinking any sort of alcohol during the week and keep that for the weekend. That's a loss of around 300-500 calories each weekday!

Today I did 40 minutes of Zumba... which felt great since I didn't get a chance to workout Friday or Saturday!

This week, I look forward to getting out of the 200's by Friday's weigh-in! It's been quite a while since I've seen the 190s! Crossing my fingers!

My Weight Loss- Days 8-11

I want to apologize for not posting after my weigh-in last Friday. I am happy to report that I lost 4 pounds! I could have done better... everyone on my team did better than I did. As a team, we lost 38 pounds! That's exciting. It's almost the size of my 4.5 year old!

This past weekend was my anniversary weekend and I went away with my husband. That is not a good recipe for a diet. Jeff and I aren't very good at following the rules when it's just he and I and no kids. ;) We did make some conscious decisions to this instead of that to try to be good when we could. For instance, we opted for a Subway breakfast sandwich instead of looking for brunch on Sunday morning. Brunch is an instant 2000 calories! haha. We also go out and walked around a bit... tried to be active when we could. I wanted to do some zumba in our room... that didn't happen.

So this week will be all about making up for not being so good. Gonna Zumba my butt of this week... would love if that statement could be literal. :)

My Weight Loss - Day 6 and 7

Hello!

I missed yesterday, so I'm combining two days into this one post.

I was good with my food yesterday, came in under my calorie limit. I had my normal prepared breakfasts (hard boiled egg, grapes, clementine, I added strawberries this time, string cheese). For lunch I had one of those Barilla microwavable penne and marinara... probably not the best thing I could've eaten, but not the worst either. And then last night we had a ground turkey, spiral noodle, broccoli and carrot dish that came in around 400 calories for my meal. Wednesday nights are tough because we have to rush to be home from work, cook a meal and get the kids to swimming lessons. We need to work better on pre-planning some good, easy, healthier meals for those days.

Yesterday I decided to forego the workout in place for 30 minutes of shoveling. I burned about 289 calories pushing that heavy, wet slop around.

Today -- the day before our weigh in -- I have the day off and I just finished a 50 minute Zumba workout. It was fantastic. Here is a link to the new class I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDgbBdS9W54 (I love their accents and I love the dances. Congo is probably my favorite)

Once I shower, I am going to grab something to eat... But I didn't really plan for a day home at lunch. All of my planned lunches are at work. D'oh. I may just make some steamed veggies and have a string cheese.

Then I have to plan tonight's meal. We don't have anything to rush for. Any suggestions? What are your typical meals through the week? Do you eat differently than your kids because of your diet, or do you plan something you all can eat?

Tomorrow I will report the results of the weigh-in, and then I begin my mini-vacation weekend with my husband and no kids! It's going to be super tough to maintain a good diet when Jeff and I usually drink and eat like pigs when we head out. I'll report on how it goes either Sunday night or Monday.

Until tomorrow...
